Two trains and three cities in one day.

Berlin / Dresden / Prague. We caught the 8:45 train to Dresden which was an integral part of our trip albeit as just a stopover on the way to Prague. The two hour trip passed quickly and after successfully cloaking the bags at Dresden station it was off exploring this “rebuilt” baroque city. I had completed my homework - reading Slaughterhouse 5 so I had an idea of what to expect but the reality of seeing buildings that were pointlessly bombed in the last week of WW2 restored to their original structures was confronting and intriguing. A quite beautiful place with the river meandering through so how would we add to this - let’s try the Sistine Madonna in the Old Masters Gallery!!

A quiet moment: Dresden.

Made it back to the station at around 5 for the 2.5 hour train trip to Prague which in itself was quite brilliant as most of the journey was along the riverside making for picturesque views. From Prague station it was only a five minute walk to our hotel where Charles over-serviced us including a mini tour of the foyer and included the smoking room which was an old bank vault in a previous life of the building. After a brief recovery we set off towards the Old Town Square and the lighting here certainly complemented the structures and made for a most pleasant evening. Made sure that Annette was safely back in the hotel and headed out to spend an hour or so at the Koala Bar where pints of Stella were 2.5 Euro - too good to refuse.
