| Piazza San Marco, Venice. |
21 August 2013
Venezia. Again had an early morning explore this time around the Di Largo Argentina - a sanctuary for the stray cats of Rome and also back to Piazza Navona before heading to the airport for our 9:20 one hour flight to Venice. What a spectacular way to enter the city, via water taxi, which included negotiating the Grand Canal before depositing us at a wharf just 50 metres from our hotel.
A brief recovery session and a spot of lunch in the local square had us primed to head into St Mark’s Square. After a getting our bearing we headed in to explore the Doge’s Palace including the Bridge of Sighs. Listed on our itinerary as compulsory was to sit in St Mark’s Square and on a quite spectacular afternoon in beautiful sunlight - hey why not. This proved to be most relaxing and entertaining not only for the musical accompaniment from each eatery in the square but for the goings on in the square itself including a wedding. Headed back towards our hotel without getting too lost and after a meal in the open air at a restaurant adjacent to a canal near home another great day wound down.
